One of our favorite films of all time is the 1920s silent, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Robert Weine's German Expressionist masterpiece was a testament to light, shadow and distorted forms, along with the political climate of the German Weimar Republic. Cesare is famously depicted here, carrying the terrified Jane as an angry mob closes in.
